24 Wins in ’24:
Celebrating a Year
of Fun and Fierce 🎉

24 wins from another fierce year in business—team triumphs, client milestones, and proof that even in chaos, women can thrive (and have fun doing it).

Emma Bowdler | The Women's Accountant

Emma Bowdler

I’m a cheerleader for women and an accountant bursting with personality.

If there’s one thing we’ve learned this year, it’s that celebrating the wins—big, small, and everything in between—matters more than bloody ever. 2024 has been a tough year for many business owners (understatement, we know), but we’re happy to say we’ve made it through, and so 👏 have 👏 you.

Sure, plenty of sh*t has gone awry, but as the year draws to a close, we wanted to take this golden glittery opportunity to reflect on what’s gone oh-so-right. From team triumphs to community milestones, these 24 wins from 2024 prove that even in the brattiest of years, there’s always something to cheer/s for 🥂

Team TWA Wins 🥳

1. Launched Our First-Ever Product

This year, we took a leap into the product world and teamed up with two of our faves (CARMEN GET IT! + Jeanie Design Studio) to create a deck of cards that helps you draw inspiration, not blanks. These little beauties are like having mini pep talks in your pocket, designed to help you stay fierce, focused, and with your eyes on the prize. Drawing one at the start of every week has become our new fave ritual so be sure to grab some for yourself!

2. Moved to the Other Side of Town

After 7 years in our beloved Ruthven Street location in Toowoomba (and we say beloved because we had an absolute hoot there with so many stories that can only be shared over beer and bubbles, we said goodbye to our old digs and upgraded to a vibrant new space in James Street. We like to think it’s more than just an office—it’s a place where all the magic happens, the big ideas come to life, and people can come together if they just so happen to want a bean counter they can visit IRL.

3. Brought Our Slogan to Life in the Brightest Way Possible

Around here we have a motto: ‘Fortune Favours the Fierce’, and now these four powerful words hang proudly as a stunning piece of custom artwork in our new office. Thanks to incredible Brisbane artist, Michelle Sparks, who brought this vision to life—it’s our daily reminder of who we are, what we stand for and how we embrace the roar.

4. Added to the Treasure Trove that is
our Free Resources Page

From our shiny new 12 Slays of Christmas Challenge to our fun Bottoms Up Budget and yearly Financial Calendar, we’re always busy cooking up a zillion ways to help you thrive—and 2024 was no different. Add to that a dozen new blogs, a bunch of templates, and whispers of a podcast—it seems that 2025 is already looking mighty fine.

🤫Psst…

Now would be a great time to subscribe to our fortnightly newsletter (if you’re not already) so you don’t miss a thing!

5. Donated Over $12K to
Local Charities & Community Organisations

We’re big believers in giving back, but we don’t just believe it, we actually do it. From community groups and hospital foundations, we put our money where our values are and make sure we’re always helping the folks who help everyone else.

One of those organisations is Protea Place—a local refuge and crisis centre for women and their children escaping family violence. For the last four years, we’ve been proud supporters of this incredible org, from donating the cost of our Meet & Greet Discovery sessions to attending their 5th Birthday Celebration Event in September. So this win is very much yours, as much as it is ours.

6. Committed To Working ‘On The Business’ Every Week (And Actually Did It)

Running a business can feel like you’re scurrying on a hamster wheel in high heels at the best of times, so this year—before the calendar filled up—our Founder and Head Bean Counter, Emma, made sure to carve out dedicated time each week to focus on strategy, growth, and the big picture. It’s been a total game-changer, both for her and for our business.

7. Swinging Big at the Home of Golf

Proof that dreams really do come true! This year, Emma teed off at St Andrews in Scotland (a.k.a the birthplace of golf) and was able to kick this truly bucket-list-worthy moment all the way down the fairway. Despite ushering the business through a significant period of evolution and change, Em has worked hard on her golf game, finishing the year with her best ever score—dressed as a pineapple, because of course (get it 😉).

8. Crushed Four MBA Subjects, Five to Go

Balancing a business, kids, an office build, and everything else in life is no small feat, but Emma also managed to make time to level up and smash out another four MBA subjects this year. Just five more to go, and she’ll be sashaying across that graduation stage before you know it!

9. Turned 40 in Style

They say life begins at 40, right? Well, Emma made sure to kick off the decade with a whole lot of confetti and cake in March, surrounded by friends, family, and a whole lot of good vibes.

10. Took a Month-Long Overseas Trip…and the Wheels Didn’t Fall Off

For the first time ever, Emma took an extended trip overseas and left the business in the capable hands of her amazing team. Testament to the systems we’ve built and the excellent people behind them, everything ran pretty damn smoothly.

“I’m really proud to have built a business where I can take a 5 week holiday in the middle of the year and it can keep on running.   It was glorious, and I felt like I could completely check out for a period of time, which is so important to do, if you can, when you’re running a biz.”

11. Survived a Month with the Boss Overseas

12. Helped My Son Transition to a New School

We are all more than just ‘one thing’. Sure we’re accountants, but many of us are also Mums, sisters, partners, friends. In lots of ways, 2024 wasn’t just about work—it was also about family, as Emily supported her son through a big school transition. An important reminder of how important it is to build businesses capable of holding complexity, allowing us to show up as full human beings.

13. The Chance to Meet with So Many Incredible People Doing Great Work

After a few years behind-the-scenes, Emily stepped into a more client-facing role this year, helping our clients with everything they needed from answering quick questions to diving into big-picture strategy. Not only has it been incredible to see her step up into this expanded role, it’s amazing to see the ripple effect when clients feel confident and supported to make bold moves in their business.

14. Booked a Family Holiday for 2025

Amid the chaos, Emily has also decided she’s going to take a leaf out of Emma’s book and plan a much-needed family getaway for next year. Because we know they say change is as good as a holiday, but you know what’s also just as good? An actual holiday.

🔥Quick Break for a Hot Take

We’re all juggling multiple hats, spinning plates, balls of fire, you name it—women are doing it. What we need are businesses that get it—life in the 21st century is messy, unpredictable, and undeniably human. It’s time to ditch the rigid 9-to-5, “leave your personal life at the door” nonsense and create workplaces that actually work for people and that people want to work for.

Marketing Magician, Rhany’s Wins ✨

15. Finished 2nd Year of a Marketing Degree
(with All HDs if you Don’t Mind)

She’s a smart cookie our Rhany, and this year she navigated, study, a demanding job (videos of racing unicorns don’t make themselves) and all the while finishing the second year of her degree…with high distinctions we might add! We are so excited to see her flourish and really grow with confidence in this role, so if you haven’t seen some of her handiwork, we suggest you skedaddle over to our Instagram pronto.

16. Bought a New Car

After months of saving and researching, Rhany also finally upgraded to a brand new set of wheels. A little win, a lot of joy.

17. Created the Empowering #Ibelieve Campaign for IWD

To mark International Women’s Day, Rhany spearheaded our #IBelieve campaign, showcasing the beliefs and values of our community. Seeing it come to life was so inspiring. ICYMI: take a look!

18. W Bought Her First Home at 56

Proof that it’s never too late to chase your dreams, one of our incredible clients achieved her dream of homeownership this year, and we couldn’t be prouder to have supported her journey.

19. L Smashed Her Cancer Treatment

This year, one of our community members faced an unimaginable challenge and came out stronger than ever. Her resilience was a near constant reminder to us of how strong women are, and what’s possible with a little courage and support.

20. K Took Her Leap from Sole Trader to Company

Levelling up in a big way this year, one of our clients made the transition from party of one to party of more. It’s been a privilege to watch her grow and really push the boundaries of her industry in some really innovative ways.

21. C Launched a Campaign Calling for Intersectional Pay Gap Data

Basically, despite some solid progress, we are *still* failing to fully capture the nuances experienced by women and gender-diverse people with intersecting identities. Co-created by one of our clients, the ‘Out of Sight, Out of Pocket’ campaign raises awareness of critical issues in the way we collect and report data on the Gender Pay Gap, and we were only too happy to champion it alongside her. PS: there’s still time to get on board and sign the open letter

22. M Sold the Business and Hasn’t Looked Back

Whether it’s the start of a new chapter or the end of an era, we’re here for all of it. This year, after 14 years in business, M made the bold move to sell up shop and pursue something new. We can’t wait to see what he has in store next!

23. Shiny Happy Art Launched their Turkey Smugglers for Christmas

Creativity at its finest! Anna’s product launch was a long-time coming, but it’s absolutely worth the wait. Her festive take on the good ol’ ‘budgy smuggler’ gives us a chuckle every time! Gobble them up

24. SURVIVING!

In a year that’s been one of the hardest on record to be in business, and with the economy slowing to a grinding halt—we reckon just ‘surviving’ is something worth celebrating. You’re still here. We’re still here. And sticking together as a community really has been the ultimate highlight of 2024.

Friendly Reminder From Your Business Bffs
— Festive Edition 🎄

This time of year is about more than tearing open pressies and stuffing yourself with stuffing (although that sounds delicious). It’s about reflecting on how far you’ve come and dreaming big for the road ahead.

Consider this your final reminder in 2024 to rest, recharge, and celebrate your wins—no matter how big or small. And if you’re struggling to find the pause button, this might help.

Make 2025 the Year of Your Business Breakthrough 🎉

We have plenty of big things in store next year, and if you’re a woman in business who is looking for more than a bean counter, we definitely want you to be part of it!

Start the new year strong by booking a Meet & Greet Discovery Call with us early in the New Year. Trust us, business is a whole lot more fun and a whole lot more fierce when you’ve got this flock of finance chicks by your side.
